Mrs. Katelyn has grown up right here in Northeast Columbia. During a 4th grade ALERT project on horses, she convinced her dad that in order to present properly she needed to experience horse back riding and an interview from Mrs. Stephanie Storey wasn't enough. HA! Riding lessons began then at age 8 and five years later, for her 12th birthday/Christmas/every holiday from that point on, she finally got her first horse, Begger Bear! May 30th, 1999 her parents Don & Kathleen Purcell purchased Long Creek Equestrian, her home away from home! Twenty four years later here I still am at Long Creek, where I started orginally! I have shown in hunters, combined training and dressage. Dressage is her choice of riding. For fourteen years I have also lead the Richland County Rough Riders 4 H.
Katelyn is married to Blake Blackwell and they have four children : Karleigh, Briggs, Kay & Bayne.
All born and raised right on the farm!
Ms. Jillian is originally from Fredericksburg, VA she grew up on an Egyptian Arabian breeding farm. Trying many different disciplines throughout her youth, she finds the most enjoyment in Dressage and Eventing. Ms. Jillian started at LCEC as a 4H'er, once graduated she began her teaching career. She became certified through the American Horseback Riding Instructors Association in 2014. Ms. Jillian volunteers her time and currently is leading the Richland County Rough Riders 4 H Club.
Jillian's current mount is a bay OTTB named Sergio, which she has shown through novice horse trials and first level dressage!
Ms. Katie is from Chicago, Il. She had a Thoroughbred named Payton for her late teens until a few years ago. Katie shares the passion of horse back riding with her mom and sister. Teaching is a newer part of her riding career however, she is enjoying working with the aspiring students.
Katelyn Blackwell and Jillian Myers teach full time at Long Creek. We have other staff members who assist students in various ways such as camps, beginner lessons, extra hands at events, etc.
